About Power Conversions
Power is the rate at which work is done or energy is used. It's the difference between how much gas a tank holds (Energy) and how fast the engine burns it (Power). The Watt is the universal metric unit, while Horsepower is still the standard for engines in the US and UK. Air conditioners are weirdly rated in BTUs per hour (often just called BTUs). Our converter handles the Watts, Horsepower, and Kilowatts so you can compare a lawnmower engine to a lightbulb. Common conversions: 1 hp ≈ 746 Watts, and 1 kW = 1,000 Watts.
